Film capacitors

Film capacitors are designed using a number of dielectrics (the insulating material between the plates of the capacitor). The dielectric materials are chosen for their ability to permit electrostatic attraction and repulsion to take place across the film. The dielectric materials ensure that any energy required to establish an electric field is recoverable, in whole or in part, as electric energy. Common used dielectrics in film capacitors include polyester, polycarbonate, polypropylene and polystyrene.

Polyester capacitors offer a high dielectric constant and high dielectric strength with volumetric efficiency. Metallized polyester has excellent self-healing properties. Typical applications for polyester capacitors can be coupling and bypassing. Polypropylene provides very low losses, low dielectric absorption and high dielectric strength. These capacitors offer very high insulation resistance and a negative temperature coefficient. Typical applications include stable oscillators and filters, hold circuits and pulse-handle circuits.

Tecate Group film capacitors

Tecate Group film capacitors are offered in a variety of lead configurations and dielectrics, covering a wide temperature range. These include polyester, metallized polyester and polypropylene capacitors for higher-pulse applications. Tecate also offers SMT capacitors in both PPS and PET film types and can build custom capacitors to meet customer-specific needs.
