Ampelmann partnered with AEP Hybrid Power and realized a Dynamic Energy Storage System for a smart motion compensation system. This energy storage system based on ultracapacitors will be applied to Motion Compensation Gangways used in offshore operations allowing a safer and more efficient way of accessing ships, platforms or even offshore wind energy systems, where crew changeover (Walk to work) or cargo transfer takes place. For this vessel, weight and available space were an issue and therefore the ESS system was placed in a refrigerated cabinet below deck, directly in the engine room.
